WP Engine in Downtown Omaha

Come share your passion

At BarCamp, we’ve ditched the predetermined speaker list. We’re a user-generated, creative unconference that provides a space for everyday humans to share their passions. Talks aren’t scheduled until just before the conference starts, and anyone can speak — though it’s just as rewarding to sit back and listen. There’s no bar (except for drinks at the opening party) and no camp (unless you bring your own tent). But there’s a whole lot to discover.

The Venue

WP Engine

WP Engine is a fully managed WordPress hosting platform with speed, security, and support. Their easy-to-use tools and award-winning support team help customers build WordPress websites or migrate existing sites with ease. They are graciously allowing us to use their space this year for BarCamp main events!

The Tracks

Talks are organized into one of four speaking categories.

Maker

Tell us about the awesome things you’ve created or built, or your journey to owning your own work (even if it’s a side hustle) and living the dream.

Creative

When you’re in your zone, when your art seems to create itself, when you amaze yourself with what you’ve done — what gets you there? Tell us what you do when you’re at your most creative.

Technology

Are you agile, traditional, waterfall or adaptive? Are you researching, designing, programming or testing? Or you about to blow our minds with something so new, we have to see it to believe it?

Kitchen Sink

Maybe you’re a plumber. Maybe you’re a chef. Maybe you have very strong opinions on whether or not a hot dog is a sandwich. We want to hear your kitchen sink story (literal or not) and the how behind your gushing achievements.

The FAQ’s

Get your quick answers here!

What am I paying $20 for?

Opening party / drink ticket, breakfast, coffee, soda & snacks, lunch, BarCamp t-shirt, good times / new friends (which is sorta priceless…)

How long are the talks?

Each talk runs for 23 minutes. Speakers are allowed to use that time however they wish—you can even share a time slot with multiple people or set up a panel discussion, allowing time for Q&A at the end. The last 7 minutes of every half-hour slot is reserved for transition time between talks.

Can I give a sales presentation?

Nope! To be respectful of our BarCamp community, sales presentations or pitches are not allowed. Don’t even try it, folks.

When do I get my BarCamp t-shirt?

Tees and other goodies will be available on the day of BarCamp at the merch table. Though we try to purchase enough of each t-shirt size, we recommend picking your shirt up early in the morning just in case.

What should I bring?

Something to share with all of your new friends…a business card perhaps? We encourage you to bring a notebook for notes. If you’ve planned a talk with presentation slides, bring your laptop or an external drive with your files. And bring all your friends!

What if I have a food allergy?

No sweat! We make sure everyone is included. If you have specific food allergies or restrictions, contact Kit at barcampevents@gmail.com and we’ll take care of you. Each year we work with our caterer to provide vegetarian, vegan and gluten free options.

Do I need to be vaccinated for COVID-19?

WP Engine's policy to enter their space is that you must be vaccinated for covid or have a negative test result from within 48 hours prior to the event. If the vaccine requirement is problematic for you (e.g. you are unable to get vaccinated for health reasons), please don't hesitate to reach out to Kit at barcampevents@gmail.com.
